Founded by Cedric Torres, an outdoor educator and passionate sailor, Faro Sailing is about more than just teaching skills. It’s about opening the door to a new way of being on the water.
Based on Vancouver Island, Faro introduces new sailors to the art of cruising through hands-on, experiential learning. You’ll always be in a safe, supportive environment where making mistakes and trying new things is part of the process.
Cedric’s goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere that builds confidence, curiosity, and a lasting love for life under sail. Each trip offers not only a valuable learning experience but also an unforgettable adventure along BC’s coastline.

Cedric's outdoor journey began with formal post-secondary education at Westcoast Adventure College, where he later returned as an instructor. His career in outdoor tourism took root in the Gulf Islands, where he developed a deep connection to the coast through guiding and sailing.
Having lived aboard several boats and sailed countless others, Cedric’s passion for sailing, particularly cruising, continues to grow. Fluent in Spanish, French, and English, he has also gained valuable experience working abroad.
Certifications include:
ISPA Instructor (Coastal Skipper)
Certified Kayak Guide (AOG)
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP)
Marine Radio Operator Examiner
Bear Viewing Guide (Level 1)
Advanced Wilderness First Aid
Marine First Aid + CPR, and more!
Having learned from various mentors and worked with several outdoor education institutions, Cedric has come to recognize experiential education as a powerful tool for teaching both hard and soft skills in a nautical environment.
Experiential education places students in situations where they learn by doing, within a safe space that encourages making mistakes, working through problems, and facing challenges. This approach, paired with debriefing and reflection, creates an educational experience that is effective, memorable, and enjoyable.
